Donkey Kong 0

Jul25

You Stupid Ape! Control Jump Man (Yes, that’s what Mario was called before being called “Mario”) to save the Princess from a giant ape! Donkey Kong has to be one of the best examples of things being lost in translation. Called “Stupid Ape” in Japan, the games creators needed to translate the name to an English friendly name when it was launched in America in the early 80s. “Ape” translated as “Kong”, where as “Stupid” was incorrectly translated as “Donkey”. “Donkey Kong” has stuck ever since.
