I read an article recently about an “epidemic” among teenagers. Yes, hacking into other peoples Facebook accounts is wrong… but the most damage they can do is put “Billy Johnson is a gayhead!!!!!111 PENG!!!!” as a status.
I’ll admit that I’ve done a fair bit of hacking in my time. Some ethical, some not so ethical. But it taught me how to get round security settings and dick around with things at a binary level, which now helps me in my job as a tester. I wrote something recently that lets us get around security policies and run command lines on remote PCs from our Automated scripts.
As long as it’s controlled, I don’t see the problem with the younger generation doing a little hacking here and there. To say that a teenage hacker will get involved in serious crime later in life is laughable. I used to hack, and I’m a decent person.
